Why We’re Working With Acumatica

For the past 2 years we have been performing due diligence on a number of ERP solutions. We’ve been exclusively Intuit resellers since 2009, so Fourlane selling another accounting software product is a big deal. We’ve chosen to partner with Acumatica for several reasons.

Foremost, with Acumatica you own your data. This means no lock-in, unlike products like NetSuite and SAP, which can be extremely difficult to convert from. We only recommend solutions where you retain full control of your data and customer base.

Acumatica also offers a flexible pricing model, which makes it an ideal next step for growing companies. They have consumption based pricing which means you pay for the amount of bandwidth you use, not by number of users. This means you aren’t looking at steep price increases every time a new team member needs to access the system. Compared to other ERP systems, Acumatica’s price point is much more affordable and the initial capital expense is much lower.

Lastly, Acumatica is a product that was built for the cloud. Most legacy ERPs (again, we’re talking mostly about NetSuite and SAP) were first built as on-premise solutions, much like QuickBooks Enterprise. Then as cloud-based software and SaaS subscriptions became the new normal, they made some tweaks to the software to work in-browser, and operate as a subscription.

With Acumatica, the software has been cloud-based since the beginning and its design and workflows reflect this. It feels seamless and natural and the native mobile apps (Apple and Android available) are extremely user-friendly.

As we have a number of long-term clients who are now outgrowing QuickBooks, and in need of another great solution, we’re excited to offer a great alternative!

Outgrowing QuickBooks : Features Of Acumatica

  • Cloud Based: Although QuickBooks Enterprise does offer a “cloud based” option, it is not truly cloud-based. It is a Desktop product with a hosting option. Acumatica was built with the cloud in mind. Your data can be securely accessed from anywhere, without installation of any apps or Acumatica products. This makes entering or checking data from your phone or a secondary computer easy!

  • Enterprise Resource Planning: QuickBooks does contain some basic ERP-like features, but ultimate the product focus is on accounting. Acumatica is much more feature-rich and contains multiple modules that seamlessly connect.

  • Relational Database Export: QuickBooks uses a proprietary database and does not provide a true export function, requiring a third-party utility to access the underlying database. This makes it difficult to move or edit your data outside the program. Acumatica uses SQL, which is the most widely deployed relational database. This greatly increases the flexibility of your data, and the ease with which you can run reports, build custom applications, and increase functionality.

  • Flexible Licensing Options: Acumatica offers both up-front and monthly pricing. Whether you prefer a depreciable capital expense, or an ongoing operational expense, Acumatica is flexible in how you structure your licensing agreement.

  • Unlimited Scalability: Acumatica charges based on consumption, not by user. This means that your company can easily add more users for a nominal fee. The system is well-suited to a large user base, with multiple permission levels and roles. If you are running into issues due to too many users on your QuickBooks Enterprise file, Acumatica is a great, extremely flexible, solution.

What is an ERP system?

ERP stands for enterprise resource planning. ERP systems are software solutions that integrate all aspects of your business. Your sales department’s leads will be fully integrated with your warehouse’s inventory and your finance department’s projections. ERP systems allow a full 360-degree view of your business health, and eliminate many opportunities for errors, miscommunication, and redundancy. Needing to integrate multiple aspects of a business is the #1 reason that companies feel they may be outgrowing QuickBooks.
