Dimensions: Report the Way Your Business Operates
The centerpiece of the Intuit Enterprise Suite Summer 2026 release is Dimensions, a new multidimensional reporting capability that deserves attention regardless of your industry.
What Are Dimensions in Intuit Enterprise Suite?
Dimensions in Intuit Enterprise Suite are flexible attributes that let businesses track and report financial activity by the operational categories that matter most, such as regions, departments, projects, product lines, cost centers, and other custom segments.
Every business is more than its totals. Underneath the top-line numbers are regions, departments, projects, and product lines, each telling a different part of the story. If you have been using classes in QuickBooks or IES, Dimensions will feel familiar, but they are far more powerful. Instead of relying on a single class, Dimensions let you add multiple reporting attributes to transactions for more flexible analysis.
Intuit’s guidance explains how organizations can create and manage Dimensions in Intuit Enterprise Suite, while Fourlane’s Intuit Enterprise Suite Dimensions lesson provides additional guidance on designing a reporting structure that stays useful as the business grows.
As of this release, Dimensions now work everywhere classes do across reports and transactions. That includes:
- Dimensions on time entries, billable expenses, and recurring payment transactions
- Header-level Dimension assignment on invoices
- Balance Sheet by Dimension reporting for single entities (beta)
- Eight additional Projects reports by Dimension, including Cost to Complete and WIP
- The ability to reparent Dimensions as your reporting needs evolve
Generate Financial Reports Without Workarounds
This is the part we think matters most for our clients: Dimensions turn financial reporting from a flat summary into a multidimensional view of the business.
You can now slice your P&L, Balance Sheet, and other reports by combinations of department, region, project, cost center, or a custom Dimension you define. That makes it easier to answer questions such as, “What’s our gross margin in the Southwest for our commercial accounts?” in a real-time report instead of building a manual spreadsheet workaround.
Because Dimensions also power budgeting and forecasting, teams can set targets and track variances at the level of detail the business actually uses to operate.
How to Get Started With Dimensions in IES
Dimensions live under Settings. From a consolidated view, look under Shared Lists. From a single-entity view, look under Lists. IES includes four custom Dimensions out of the box, with more available by contacting your account manager or Fourlane consultant.
Before you start tagging transactions, decide which Dimensions will produce meaningful reporting without creating unnecessary complexity. Good starting points include region, department, location, and sales channel. Industry-specific options can include donor type and program for nonprofits or residential versus commercial job types for construction.
This is exactly the kind of decision our DRIVE™ implementation methodology is built to support. Getting your Dimension structure right from day one can prevent a painful reporting rebuild later.
Intercompany Automation: Close Faster Across Every Entity
For multi-entity businesses, the Summer 2026 release brings meaningful automation to the Intuit Enterprise Suite close process. The updates are designed to reduce manual balancing, improve consistency, and make recurring intercompany workflows easier to manage.
What Is Intercompany Automation in Intuit Enterprise Suite?
In spring 2026, intercompany eliminations moved from balancing entire account totals at reporting time to creating eliminations in real time at the transaction level. This release extends that further.
IES can now complete and balance intercompany journal entries, post mapped intercompany bills automatically, and turn recurring transactions into reusable templates. AI-assisted recommendations use prior entries to help streamline the process while keeping users in control. Automation only takes effect when it is enabled.
Intercompany Journal Entry Smart Complete
Manually balancing intercompany journal entries, including due-to and due-from accounts and the correct entities, is one of the more tedious and error-prone parts of a multi-entity close.
Smart Complete handles much of that structure for you. Based on the lines entered, the system detects the transaction type and automatically generates the required due-to and due-from entries, intercompany contacts, and partner company. Your team supplies the business intent, and the platform helps handle the accounting structure.
Recurring Templates Are Now Generally Available
Transactions that repeat every period should not have to be built from scratch each time. With recurring templates, intercompany journal entries and dynamic allocations can become reusable templates that run automatically on a set schedule.
Intuit also documents how dynamic intercompany allocations in Intuit Enterprise Suite can be saved as recurring templates after account mappings are configured.
That is the kind of time savings we hear about most from our multi-entity clients, and it is often one of the biggest reasons growing companies consider moving from QuickBooks Online Advanced to IES.
Auto-Post With Custom Mappings
Previously, every intercompany bill went through a draft-and-accept step, even when the categorization never changed. With custom mappings, you can define a relationship between a selling company, product or service, buying company, and category.
When auto-post is enabled, matching bills can skip manual review and post automatically. AI-suggested mappings based on prior transactions can also make setup easier.
More Intuit Enterprise Suite Updates Across the Platform
Beyond Dimensions and intercompany automation, the Summer 2026 release adds enhancements across multi-entity operations, projects, inventory, AI, business intelligence, single sign-on, and workforce solutions. Features marked beta are available through Intuit’s Early Access Program.
Multi-Entity Updates
- Cross-Company Bill Payment: Record a bill payment in one entity using a bank account from another entity, with intercompany accounting handled automatically.
- Multi-Level Entity Hierarchies (beta): The entity hierarchies introduced in spring 2026 now extend beyond consolidated reporting into KPIs and dashboards.
- Multi-Currency (beta): Exchange rates now live in a single, protected table, with clearer rate impacts on transactions and reports that apply exchange rates automatically as of the report end date, including automatic unrealized gain and loss calculations. This is available for U.S.-dollar functional currency organizations, with international functional currencies expected in fall 2026.
Projects Updates
- New Project Reports: New reports include Open Purchase Orders by Project and Project Costs by Vendor and Project Detail, giving teams more visibility into project profitability.
- Projects Enhancements: Updates include Dimension value filtering on project reports, project associations visible directly on transaction pages, ship-to addresses that default to project site addresses, and the ability to split payroll by project.
- Project-Specific User Permissions (beta): Restrict Project Manager users to assigned projects, with AI-suggested project assignments for businesses managing many projects and managers.
Inventory Updates
- Units of Measure: Order, receive, and sell goods in the quantity that makes sense at each stage, such as crates, packs, or individual items. Intuit provides additional guidance on using units of measure in Intuit Enterprise Suite.
- Invoices With Multiple Shipping Addresses: Add multiple addresses per customer and select one from a dropdown, reducing manual entry for customers with multiple locations.
For a broader look at how IES connects sales activity, inventory movement, and financial reporting, see Fourlane’s Sales and Inventory Visibility in Intuit Enterprise Suite training lesson.
AI Updates: Intuit Intelligence
- Intuit Intelligence Chat (beta): A new natural-language chat interface for asking questions and taking actions across entities.
- Chart of Accounts Standardization Enhancements (beta): Apply standardized Charts of Accounts to subsets of entities rather than all entities, with new industry-specific Charts of Accounts available.
- Dimensions Backfill Enhancements (beta): Businesses upgrading from QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop can migrate from Locations or Custom Fields to Dimensions, with AI suggesting reclassifications based on prior transactions. This is especially relevant for Fourlane clients making the move from QuickBooks to IES. Talk to us about timing your Intuit Enterprise Suite data migration around this capability.
Business Intelligence Updates
- KPI Scorecard: Now supports Class and Dimension filters, drill-downs into KPIs, and general usability improvements.
- Management Reports in Consolidated View: AI-generated executive summaries and smart chips can automatically update metrics and time periods.
- Multi-Level Grouping: Nest up to six Dimensions in report rows, with drag-and-drop reordering, subtotals, and expandable groupings.
- Multi-Dimension “Display By” Reports (beta): Support up to three nested Display By Dimensions, including Month, Class, Location, and Dimension, with collapsible column groups and a pinned total column.
- Multi-Dimensional Pivots (beta): Group rows and columns by multiple Dimensions at once on eligible detail reports without exporting to a spreadsheet.
Single Sign-On (SSO)
Businesses can now use an existing corporate identity provider, including Google, Okta, or Entra ID, to provision IES users and manage account access. Access can be automatically revoked when an employee leaves the company, giving IT and security teams more centralized control over user access.
Workforce Solutions Updates
- Dimensions Integration With Time and Payroll (beta): Payroll admins can review, edit, and split paychecks across multiple Dimension values for richer reporting.
- Custom Report Builder for Payroll (beta): Build and save tailored reports with the employee and paycheck details your business needs.
