We at Fourlane have learned a lot from our customers when it comes to the problems they run into with their QuickBooks files. With our services, we try to help the businesses we work with identify the true issues hiding beneath the surface, and walk away better off then when they came to us. That’s why with this QuickBooks Insight series, we hope you can identify with the experiences other customers have faced. This week we discuss Fourlane QuickBooks Insights – The Power of a Field: Customer/Jobs.
Today’s QuickBooks Insight Tip #7: The Power of a Field: Customer/Jobs
If you do not use customers and job tracking in your file, use these fields for something else. This list is one of the most powerful in QuickBooks because you can add it to most transactions – including journal entries, bills, checks, credit cards and even inventory adjustments.
An Out of Control List
There was a Retail Quick Service customer using Square in their two restaurants. They tracked the customers in their rewards program but not in QuickBooks, so they were not using the customer list for anything.
The client went to a few weekly farmers markets and also worked events every year. They previously would run the events on their class list along with their store location tracking. The issue was that the list was growing and growing.
Switch all events to the customer list. We set up header customers for the farmers markets and jobs for the placement within the market to see where we sold better.
They also had a booth at Austin City Limits music festival and would put each year and weekend as a job under the event customer to see how our sales improved by year or if one weekend sold more than the other.
Further, because you can also use customers/jobs on expense transactions they could even do profitability of events and budgets for events to empower their event managers to stay within expected labor, marketing, and material costs.
